Who am I?
Hello, my name is Theresa Acutt.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting this space.
I am your Australian Counselling Association, registered counsellor, committed to bringing you high quality, professional counselling service.
It humbles me to be able to walk along-side you, sharing, discovering and working through the experiences that may have brought you to counselling.
I am totally amazed at how clients transform from stating they have no hope to having hope, from being totally overwhelmed, to thriving and taking control of things they can whilst letting go of things that no longer serve them. From being apprehensive, to being excited at the prospect of the change they are implementing in their life and from being confused to having such clarity and motivation to make a change or implement a skill. From grieving to learning how to live with grief in their life and from experiencing anxiety and trauma and discovering how they are able to use their strengths and still be the best version of themselves. To sum that up, well for me, my clients are absolutely inspiring.
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in supporting others. I have always been able to 'see' both sides of a situation and have tried to find the best outcome for various situations that have impacted my life.
I have been so privileged to be a part of many children's school journey. Experiencing how they become aware of their true potential and self-worth when someone believes in them, has been so inspiring to me. Being loved and appreciated and being witness to those people throughout my life, displaying strength and courage to overcome hardship and learning how to stay grounded and joyful has all contributed to where I am today.
I have qualifications and experience in Education, Counselling and Business. Prior to becoming a business owner and qualifying as a counsellor, I worked as an Education Assistant for many years in a school setting with daily interaction with both parents and children, as well as working in Day Care Centre settings. I have worked as a personal assistant/executive secretary in various corporate organisations over a number of years. I am currently a Griefline volunteer supporting help seekers who are experiencing grief or loss in their life.
I have been incredibly blessed to have raised two children, who are now adults and I have lived and worked in different countries in various roles. I now reside in Perth, Western Australia with my family.
Having supports in my life to guide me, cheerlead for me, give me new perspective on things and support me through a number of concerns and achievements, has been invaluable to me. Supports who have given me the encouragement and confidence to take small steps, helping me to change direction, stay on course and propel me forward to where I want or need to go in my life.
